Terms

The agreement, in plain words first.

The short version

You keep things here and tell us when to deliver them. We do our best to deliver exactly as asked, and we tell you clearly what we can and can't promise. A Gift box is a one-time payment for what it sends. Lifetime is a one-time payment for as long as Lovingli exists; if we ever have to close, we give you at least 12 months' notice and a full export.

These are the terms between you and Lovingli, which is run by the business named under “Changes, law and disputes”. You agree to them when you open a box, and the Privacy page is part of them. The English version is the one that counts; the German, French and Spanish pages are translations, for convenience.

The service

Lovingli is a place on the web where you keep letters, recordings, voice notes, photos and keepsakes for the people you choose, and we deliver them when you say: now, on a day you pick, every year on that day, or “just in case”, if you stop answering our check-in. It runs in a browser only. There is no app to install, and we send no push notifications, by design. Lovingli is entirely digital: we never print, post or ship anything.

You must be 18 or over to open a box, and able to enter a contract where you live. The people you write for can be any age; the box is yours, not theirs.

Lovingli is not a will, a safe-deposit box or a legal service. What you leave here carries no legal weight: it isn't a will, it doesn't decide who gets anything, and it passes on nothing but your own words and files. If you want something to have legal effect, see a lawyer where you live.

Your account

One box per email address, and one person per box. There are no passwords: you sign in with a link we email you, which works once, for 15 minutes, on the device that opens it, or with Google or Apple, if you connect them. A signed-in device stays signed in for 30 days; Settings lists them all and signs out any of them.

Keep your email address reachable, and change it in Settings when it changes; we confirm the new one with a link to it. Everything depends on that address: your check-ins, your sign-in, and every note we owe you. An address nobody reads looks, to us, like a person who has gone quiet.

Whoever controls your inbox can ask for a sign-in link and open your box as you. Protect it as you would the box itself: a strong password and two-step sign-in at your email provider, and sign out of devices you no longer use. Every opening of your box is written to a log you can ask us for. If you think someone else has been in, sign out every device in Settings and write to us.

You're responsible for what is done in your box while someone is signed in as you, unless it happened because we failed on our side.

Delivery and check-ins

Plainly“Just in case” delivery depends on you not answering us and your trusted contacts not stopping it. We can't know for certain what has happened to you; we can only follow the steps you agreed to. Pause check-ins whenever you'll be unreachable.

A Gift box never asks for a check-in. What it holds is sent right away or on the day you choose, once, to someone whose email you've given us. Up to three letters can still wait for a check-in, as on Free.

How the check-in runs. You choose how often we ask (every 6 months, every year, every 2 years or every 5 years; Free and a Gift box ask once a year) and how long you have to answer (14, 30 or 60 days). On the day, we email you the check-in in the disguise you wrote. If you don't answer, we write again on days 7, 14 and 21. When your time to answer is up, we ask each trusted contact one question: whether you're okay. If nobody answers in the 7 days after that, we send you one more email, plainly, from Lovingli, and hold for 7 more days. Only then is anything marked “just in case” delivered. Things marked “only if I'm gone” are then held until their date.

If a trusted contact answers no, nothing is delivered for 72 hours, while we write to you three times, plainly. One press of “I'm here” cancels everything and resets the clock. If you don't press it, the 7-day hold follows, and then delivery.

What counts as an answer: the button in the check-in email, “All good” inside Lovingli, “I'm here” in an alert or the hold email, or a trusted contact's yes. Signing in on its own does not count. Any answer ends the round and sets the next one from that day.

Pause whenever you'll be away. While paused, nothing is asked and nothing is delivered, dated things included, until the day you set. A box with nothing waiting on a check-in is never asked.

Dated deliveries go on their day, around 08:00 UTC, whether or not you've answered a check-in. Five days before, we send you a heads-up with four choices: send as planned, open it once more, postpone, or hold it back. Silence means send. On a Gift box, “now” goes within minutes of sealing.

What can go wrong, said plainly. We may deliver by mistake: if you're ill, away without pausing, or your inbox stops working, and nobody answers for you, the steps above run to their end and your things are delivered while you're still here. We may fail to deliver: we can only send to the addresses you gave us, we can't tell whether an address is still read, and we don't yet learn when an email bounces. Keep every address current while you can, and name trusted contacts who will answer. Once something has been opened, we can't take it back.

What recipients get. One email with your first name and a link, and a code to their inbox the first time it's opened on a new device. No account, nothing to pay. What you sent stays online for them a year from its latest arrival, with three gentle reminders and three months more if they ask, and they can download all of it, in ordinary formats, to keep without us.

Your content

It stays yours. Everything you put in your box and everything you make in the studio is yours, and we claim no rights in it. You give us only the permission we need to do the job: to store it sealed, to copy it for delivery and for your export, and to show it to the people you name when the time comes. That permission ends when a thing is deleted, except for copies already delivered, which stay with the people they were for.

What you may not do. Don't use Lovingli for anything unlawful where you or your recipient live; to threaten, harass or expose anyone; for anything that is someone else's and you've no right to share; or to write to someone who has told you, or us, that they want nothing from you. Don't try to get into a box that isn't yours, or to read what we store. We can't see inside a box, so we act on what we're told: if a recipient, or a court, tells us that a delivery breaks these rules, we may put it away.

Room. Free holds three sealed letters, up to ten people, and 1 GB for what you make before paying. A Gift box holds 5 GB. Lifetime holds 20 GB. Recordings, voice notes, photos and keepsakes count toward it; letters don't. What has been sent counts for as long as it is kept for its recipient.

Ours. The Lovingli name, the site, its design, its templates and its words are ours. You may use them to make and deliver your own things, and not to copy the service.

Payment and refunds

PlainlyYou pay once: $19 for a Gift box, $49 for Lifetime, or $30 to go from a Gift box to Lifetime. Paddle takes the payment and looks after refunds; you can ask for one within 14 days of paying. A refund never deletes a letter.

Paddle is the merchant of record for every order: you buy from Paddle.com Market Ltd (Paddle.com Inc. if you're in the United States; Paddle.com (Canada) Ltd in Canada), which sells Lovingli to you under Paddle's buyer terms, and the charge appears as PADDLE.NET* LVG. Prices are in US dollars, tax included; what's tax is shown at checkout. A new price never changes what you've already paid for.

Free seals up to three letters. A Gift box ($19) sends anything Lovingli makes, to anyone, right away or on a day you choose, once, with 5 GB of room. Lifetime ($49) holds everything, with 20 GB of room, every check-in interval and deliveries every year; a Gift box's $19 counts in full toward it. “Lifetime” means for as long as Lovingli exists, with nothing to renew, and never less than you were promised when you paid (see “If Lovingli stops”). Anything other than a letter that is made on Free and never paid for is kept for 30 days after it was last saved, then removed. Letters are never removed.

Refunds are handled by Paddle under its own refund policy, which gives 14 days from paying: reply to your receipt email or ask at paddle.net, and Paddle decides each request. Write to hello@lovingli.com and we'll help you ask. At checkout you ask for your box to be ready at once, which ends the 14-day right to withdraw that some countries give; Paddle can still refund within those 14 days.

After a refund, your box becomes what its other payments give: Free when nothing else is paid, a Gift box when only the move to Lifetime is refunded. A Lifetime paid for with a Gift box's $19 stays Lifetime if that Gift box is refunded. Nothing you wrote is deleted: every sealed letter stays and is still delivered, and what has arrived stays arrived. If it becomes Free, recordings, photos and keepsakes aren't sent any more; they stay for 30 days so you can take a copy with “Export my box”, then they're removed. A chargeback, when your bank takes a payment back, counts as a refund.

If Lovingli stops

We mean to be here for a long time, and Lovingli is built so that nobody needs us to keep what they were given: “Export my box” and a recipient's download work without us. If we ever have to close, we promise this: at least 12 months' notice, by email, to everyone with a box; “Export my box” free on every plan, the whole time; a dated letter due inside the notice delivered on its day; nothing “just in case” released early; and everything sealed kept on the terms it was sealed under, with nothing free made paid and nothing delivered carrying an advertisement.

Closing your box

Close your box whenever you like, in Settings, with one of three choices: deliver everything now (every sealed thing goes to its person today, then the box closes); give me a copy, then let it all go (you download everything, then we delete it); or let it all go (we delete it, unsent). You confirm by typing your first name, signed in within the last 15 minutes. Deletion is immediate; copies in backups are gone within seven days. What was already delivered stays with the people it was for. Closing doesn't refund a payment.

We may close a box, after writing to you, if it is used against “Your content”, if a payment for it turns out to be fraudulent, or if the law requires it. Where we lawfully can, we give you 30 days and your export first. We never close a box for being quiet: a Free box with a letter in it is kept and delivered just the same.

For recipients and trusted contacts

If you're here because someone named you, you have no account and agree to nothing by being named. By opening what was left for you, you agree to use it for yourself and the people it's for, and not to try to open anything else; the code we send to your inbox is yours, so don't pass it on. By answering “Is D okay?” you agree to answer honestly, knowing what each answer sets in motion. You can take yourself off, ask us not to remind you, or ask us to put a delivery away, at any time. What we hold about you, and your rights, are on the Privacy page.

Limits

We run Lovingli with care, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted, late or wrong: email can be delayed or lost, a provider can fail, and we are a small service. We provide it as it is, and we fix what breaks as fast as we can.

We're not responsible for what a recipient does with what you left them; for a delivery that goes ahead because the steps in “Delivery and check-ins” ran their course, or that fails because an address you gave no longer works; for what is in your box; or for a loss that neither of us could have foreseen when you opened it.

Except where the law doesn't allow a limit, our total liability to you for anything arising from these terms is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing. Nothing here limits our liability for harm to life or health caused by our negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or takes away any right the consumer law of your country gives you.

Changes, law and disputes

If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we email you at least 30 days before, plainly, from Lovingli. If you don't agree, close your box before that day, with your export; keeping it open after that day means you accept the change. Corrections, and new things that take nothing away, can go live at once. Earlier versions are available on request.

Lovingli is run by Albatros Sherifi B.I. (business number 812020676, Prishtina), an individual business registered in Kosovo. These terms are governed by the law of Kosovo, and disputes go to its courts in Prishtina. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country that protects consumers, you keep every protection its law gives you, and you may also bring a claim in your own country's courts. We'd always rather sort it out first: write to hello@lovingli.com.
